Midsummer Camping Trip 2011 - 24/26th June

15 Clan Minis and 20 crazed occupants made up the Clan contingent which made the trip south to The Gill Head Farm Campsite, which sits between Penrith (to the east) and Keswick (to the west) in England’s Lake District. The journey down for most started at 4pm at Kilmarnock services, then meeting more Clanners at Abington Services an hour or so later. Andrew’s ‘Tam’ had a wee electrical problem en-route, which was quickly diagnosed and repaired by Dr. Fraser the Miniologist. After that we motored down to the camp site and set-up our ‘rooms’ for the stay. Some of us had tents, some had ‘Pods’ to sleep in. Then it was some food and drink to finish off the evening in fine style.

The next day, the vast majority of Minis and Clanners headed off on a very well planned run through some of the scariest and most demanding roads the Clanners have ever seen. Although the weather for the drive wasn’t particularly nice, it added to the drama of the roads and surroundings. There are a fair few YouTube videos online which show how wild some parts were! Thanks to Stevie for planning the route! After the run, The Clan mostly made a beeline for the pubs and restaurants of Keswick or the barbecues back at camp to be fed, watered and rewarded after a hard day at the wheel.
The garlic mushrooms, pizza and Peroni from Woodstone Grill were very nice! Another Clan gathering took place that evening, only this time in a big living room on the camp site. Away from the breeze and light rain showers, we sat in there sharing funny stories, drinks and snacks long into the night...

Sunday morning brought with it some pleasant sunshine, a monster fry-up at the ‘Red Rooster’ and a nice easy journey home up the M6/M74.

Another very well planned and well attended Clan adventure!
