MONKEYS, GORILLAS AND COWS – OH MY!

Every year’s Thistle Run is a big thrill, and every year brings something new and unexpected – and this year’s run, from Blair Drummond Safari Park near Stirling to a very sunny seaside Oban, was no exception!

An early start found 190 minis down amongst the bears and lions at the Safari Park, with the addition of a young mini clan monkey handing out sweets! After coffee and rolls (and some early mechanical attention from George our personal AA man!), it was wagons roll as the minis headed out towards Doune and Dunblane. Bright sun shone on the long line colourful line of minis as they raced alongside Loch Earn.

Glen Orchy provided not only a perfect mini road, but a classic Thistle Run surprise – an ambush by some Safari Park escapees! Fortunately the three gorillas and an obliging cow proved to be friendly, and gave each mini their very own Thistle Run mug.

Then it was on to Oban, and a chance to park up, enjoy some chips and sea air, get sunburnt, and take a good look at all the other wonderful cars as the prizes were awarded. Then it was parade time round Oban and an opportunity to show our great little cars off to the locals! And only one went home on the back of a trailer (courtesy of George).

All in all another great day!

We at the miniclan are delighted to announce that the 2016 Thistle Run has raised a record-breaking £8000 for the charities, CLAPA and RNLI Anstruther.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed so generously to the event, and also to all of our volunteers who have spent months planning and organising the day to make it go as smoothly as possible.
